Rhinoplasty is the procedure we perform to improve the appearance of someone's nose and sometimes the actual function of their nose and their breathing. Patients almost always dislike the bump on their nose, the hump. But other patients dislike the appearance of the tip of their nose. They want it to look more refined or delicate or match the proportion to their face. The majority of the time I perform something that is called an open rhinoplasty technique, which allows me to see all of the structure of their nose and remove a lot of the guessing out, so it becomes much a very precise operation. Whenever I evaluate a patient for their nose I have to take into consideration the entire appearance of the face and the proportions of their face, and so very frequently we will look at the chin and the neck at the same time since on profile that is so important. So sometimes it is very easy to help improve the patient's proportion by making changes in their chin and neck at the same time as we make changes in their nose.
